Nice to see one of his siblings get a little love. Surprised to see ] return in his original glory! We haven't seen one of the original Elder Dragons reprinted since Nicol Bolas in M25, and before that, Bolas again in From the Vault. ] is another card with substantially less charm than the original-bring back the freaky flower woman, you cowards! I guess it was one of the ones that they've determined to have been colour shifted in a good way, like ]. Odd to see ] hitting the printers with the most accurate version of the rules text that used to be "Substance." Look into that one in the history of Magic's rules if you dare!Ĭolourful new illustration for ] is very charming! This card was first printed in Planar Chaos as a colour shift of ], one of those oddballs from Arabian Nights which clearly represents a specific person, but wasn't a Legend because that didn't exist yet, not until, well, Legends. I had liked how the OG was referenced in the composition of the card ]. New illustration for ] is a little "tame" for my tastes. Another card that referenced this mix-up, and showed actual lemures, was ] from-where else?-Time Spiral Block. Amusingly, illustrator Richard Thomas DID look up "hyalopterous," which means "having translucent wings," but took "lemure" for granted. If you don't know, this card is famous for being part of a miscommunication between card designers and illustrators from Magic's early days: a "lemure" is an undead spirit in Roman mythology, but the card depicts a "lemur," the furry little animal. ] has a wonderful new illustration which is more "accurate," haha. ] is a great nostalgia reprint and I love seeing the old illustration! I would like the ] callout more if it wasn't a card in the very same set though. (Young'uns reading this card likely won't understand.creatures have come a long way since Urza Block!) But if you didn't know, the original illustration shows Cephalids examining a ] as they come to that conclusion, a creature card which was notoriously "broken" in the sense of being overpowered. OK, I guess it's still funny that saying "this is broken" isn't really "deep" analysis. ] has its old flavour text back, but without the original image it doesn't really make sense.

Seriously though.I love the new illustration for ], are those Phyrexian Negators in the background? r/magicTCG is not produced, endorsed, supported by, or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.įlavour fail: ] clearly takes place on Serra's Realm, a separate plane from Dominaria.
